Every woman, plus size or otherwise is ready to lighten things up after a long, weary winter. It’s time to inject fun and optimism into our spring wardrobes after two years of a sobering pandemic. I know many you are ready to start freshening up last years spring wardrobe! Well we got a lot to choose from this season.

Some trends like micro minis and bare midriffs are not great fits for us but I’m excited about the hot silhouettes of the season; maxi lengths, columns of bold colours, sexy cut outs and a great return to the wide leg trouser. All very wearable looks for us curvy gals. There is a move away from fast fashion and a move towards  buying forever staples that we can hold in our closets for years. A classy, smart way to build a wardrobe! So let’s get to it with our first trend of the season.

1. Maxi Lengths – Plus Size 2022 Trend

From www.Eloquii.com

There is nothing that is more sophisticated and elegant than a maxi length dress. It can be tailored, bohemian, sculptural or romantic, all chic looks for spring. No doubt  this length shows up in dresses, skirts and coordinated sets. All kinds of silhouettes will suit every body type including: a-lines, fit and flare, empire, and body con for those more adventurous curvy girls. This is a piece that will take you anywhere from black tie event to vacation. Cool to wear and brilliantly covers those lumps and bumps we all want hidden.

2. Bold Colour – Plus Size 2022 Trend

This trend continues from fall. Bright colours lift our spirits and inspire enthusiasm. Something that has been seriously lacking the past two years. Undoubtedly there is no other season better, than spring/summer to introduce sunny, bright neon shades of fuchsia, yellow, greens and blues.

Pastel Easter shades get revved up into more intense versions of the same colour, moving to full throttle brights for summer. This season we are seeing columns of colour. It’s great for  us plus size girls!   Of course head-to-toe dressing in one shade is flattering and elegant. The monochromatic approach works really well in bold colours like coral, pink etc

Colour blocking is another look featured on the runways, also flattering for curvy figures. Combinations of black and white as well as fuchsia and orange ( check out our header!) are online at sites like: Eloquii , 11Honore and Marla Wynne at TSC. It’s all about colour graphics, so look for stripes, polka dots, florals, paisley and colour blocking – playful patterns in bold brights.

3. White Head to Toe – Plus Size 2022 Trend

The one colour that seems to have created a trend all on its own is white. It’s fresh and chic for spring. You see maxi dresses, pants, tops, jumpsuits and skirts. This is a colour that many plus size women traditionally stay away from – myself included. I bought my first pair of white jeans and white linen pants last year. I’ve never liked my hips, legs or bum well enough to put white on them.

But you know what – it can be done and done well. It’s all about finding the right cut. I must of tried 20 pairs of each on to get to a winner. So go ahead and feel good about wearing white this season. So, if nervous, start with a maxi length dress. I’m sure you’ll look amazing in whatever style best suits your body type. If in doubt about what your body type is, check out my Style Fundamentals page for a rundown on the body types and what best suits your shape.

4. Suiting – Plus Size 2022 Trend

Suiting is back with new proportions and a modern twist. Oversized blazers, vests and shirts with high waisted, wide leg trousers. Great for us curvy girls but we must keep our personal proportions in mind when putting a look together. One or two of these pieces might be enough to create the look for our shapes. Often adding a belt or a strategic tuck might help with the proportions to optimize your look.

5. Sexy Cuts Outs and Sheer Fabrics Plus Size 2022 Trend

A lot of skin baring pieces on the runways in sheer fabrics, bikini tops and major cut outs in shirts and dresses. A bit too much bareness for me!  Nevertheless it doesn’t mean we can’t have a taste of sexy or peek-a-boo. Look for sheer fabrics in chiffon or lace that tanks or cami’s can be worn beneath. Cut outs, strategically placed to highlight your best assets-  like at the neck or shoulders drawing your eyes up to your beautiful face are definite choices!

6. Big Leather Jacket – Plus Size 2022 Trend

The leather moto jacket has never really gone out of style. I bet that it’s an essential piece in most women’s wardrobe. Besides It transitions from winter to spring and summer to fall beautifully. So, it’s a valuable investment piece. I’ve seen great leather and vegan leather moto jackets in all colours. Already have the basic black in your wardrobe? Now is the time to add a bold spring shade as an alternative add on.

7. Art To Wear Accessories – Plus Size 2022 Trend

I believe that big, bold, beautiful women need big, bold, beautiful accessories. Little pieces get lost on our shapes. This season’s accessory trends are perfect for completing our looks. It’s all about conversation starters and attention-grabbing staples for accessories. The big tote, bright colour shoes and sneakers, bold baubles and bangles, colourful hair clips and eye-catching sunglasses. These statement pieces will finish off your outfit and have people stopping you to find out where you got them. Have fun and go play.
