One of the staples in most plus size women’s closets, in fact any women’s closet, is the white shirt. It could be an oversized menswear, A-line or shaped ¾ sleeve version, whatever style makes you feel that you are on point. There’s a reason the perfect white shirt is a favourite. It can be mixed and matched, dressed up or down and fits every kind of personal style.  I judge every purchase by the number of wears I can get out of it. In fact, something needs to be really needs to knock my socks off, for me to purchase if it does not have at least three looks. And “the” white shirt more than surpasses this requirement!

Today we are going to look at five different ways to style your white shirt for this season.

Casual Look #1

Let’s start with a casual look. A simple straight leg black jean, white shirt and a structured but stretch black blazer. What I’m showing is Laura’s Black Jean, Foxcroft Taylor White Shirt and Brian Bailey’s Stretch Black Blazer – all this season’s offerings. The straight leg jean is one of the new jean silhouettes for the season. Relaxed, high waisted and particularly flattering for the plus size shape.  The Foxcroft shirt is a shaped body with a ¾ sleeve. Great to wear the sleeve rolled up or straight down in a slim fit body. The beauty of this shirt is that it can be worn all four seasons with the ¾ sleeve. Foxcroft also offers additional white long sleeve shirts in varying silhouettes.  Brian Bailey’s stretch blazer is remarkably flattering yet comfortable offering jersey stretch panels down the side of the otherwise structured jacket. This silhouette is great for the Plus size pear shape.

Casual/Business Look #2

Our second look can be worn casually or as workwear. This stretch /denim zip up tunic vest has a wonderful, oversized collar. It looks fabulous done up or unzipped. I’ve put it with leggings and the same white shirt. The vest is a Lousje and Bean piece, a few years old but they offer similar vest pieces every year. The side panels are bamboo which gives it stretch along with the front and back panels in denim.  Leggings are basic black Cei Moi and the necklace which I think finishes the look beautifully is Frank’s Ideas. The result a polished and sophisticated outfit suitable for casual or workwear.

Dressy Casual Look #3

The third look is upscale casual. It is the black straight leg jean, with the same white shirt and a black sweater and necklace. The jean and white shirt are the same as mentioned above. The Eileen Fisher black lightweight knit sweater has a bateaux neckline with ¾ bell sleeves. Perfect to roll up the white shirt cuffs. Okay you know me and accessories, I think the black rubber and white felt necklace completes the look! Feel free to showcase your own personality and add your finishing touch in accessories.

White Plus Size Shirt & Jumper

Workwear Look #4

The fourth look is easy going workwear. The black jumper, over the white shirt along with leggings. I like wearing leggings with many of my dresses. I find it warmer and more comfortable. If that is not for you substitute black hosiery or tights. Again, expressing yourself and what make you comfortable is the name of the game. The jumper is jersey, an older piece of mine but I will show something similar below. The Christina Brampti necklace is coiled netting with soft, river worn stones and pearls inside. The long silhouette can be worn doubled or tripled as well, making for a versatile piece.

Workwear Look #5

The fifth and final look is traditional suiting for work: classic structured jacket, white shirt, and the pencil skirt. This is the same white shirt and jacket from above. The pencil skirt is in a firm Ponti fabric from Eloquii. I added the belt to accent the waist under the jacket.

So there you have it, five different looks with the same white shirt. Regardless of what your version of the perfect white shirt might be, it is a basic essential that no Plus size woman should be without.  Depending on your personal style you might wear the same shirt with the black jeans and instead change up the top layer; perhaps a sweater, jean jacket, blazer, waterfall cardigan or leather moto jacket. The list goes on.  The white shirt is essential to any wardrobe whether you are a minimalist or not.
